Being different can be hard. Standing out in the crowd is not something we all want to do. It’s much easier to blend in, staying on the sidelines – and within your comfort zone. But that’s not where God’s called us to be.
He’s calling us to be different. For Him. He wants us to stand out as His children and spread light throughout the nations. (Romans 12:2) (Matthew 5:16) (Deuteronomy 14:2)
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2 NKJV
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:16 NKJV
For you are a holy people to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
Deuteronomy 14:2 NKJV

But that can be scary sometimes.
Tell me, what would you do if God called you right now to stand up at your local park and read a chapter of your Bible? Would you go? Such an act would take courage and gumption. As well as strength in who you are as a person. Strength that can only come from the Lord.
But He wouldn’t call you to do something you feel is scary and then leave you high and dry. The first step is a test – a question to see if you will have faith in Him. The next step, if you obey and do what He asks, is the strength He will give you to carry out that deed.
Now chances are that He’s not calling you to stand up at your local park. But it could be something similar. Maybe he wants you to join the choir at your church, witness to a co-worker, or visit a nursing home. Whatever it is, it’s hard for you. It’s stepping outside your comfort zone and being different.
So the question is:
Do you have what it takes?
Will you answer the call, even if it means you have to face the unknown? It will be scary. It will be hard. But you will be rewarded tenfold if you are doing what the Lord calls you to do.
For me, that scary act was starting a ministry with my best friend. I had prayed about it, thought about it, and knew it was what God wanted me to do. But when it came down to writing those posts, making the graphics, and – freeze – posting the first one on Instagram, it was hard. I am not going to lie, I had my doubts.

But surrounded by my friends, family, and, most importantly, God, I knew that I could take that step. Be different. And do what He has called me to do. But you have to have that courage, that inner strength, and be grounded in who you are.
Do you have that courage?
Tell me, what hard thing has God called you to do?
How is it making you different and stronger?
Let us know in the comments! We would love to pray through this decision with you!
Meet The Writer

Hi there! My name is Allyson Jamison and I am a writer with a passion to serve Christ! Though fiction is my first love, I have lately found enjoyment in nonfiction as well and love using my talents for the Lord. When not scribbling furiously away with pen and paper or typing at the computer as I’m more often to do, I can be found in a quiet corner lost in the pages of a book, cuddling with my dog, or cooking up some scheme of adventure that will result in mischief and fun. Always while drinking a cup of tea.
