An Article By: Benjamin Black

Everyone wonders who they are at some point in their life. We wonder what we are. Identity confusion swirls around us in a thousand forms all throughout modern society. It’s so easy to listen to what the world says, and become discouraged. It says we’ll never be anything. That we’ll always be dirty.

Fallen.

Lost.

Defeated.

As though it was the authority on the matter.

But God calls to each of us, by the Holy Spirit and by His Word, to bring us a different message. A message that we can actually rely on, a true word from the one who actually invented truth. To His children, He declares the truth of who we are. To the lost, He says, “this is what you can be!” “For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16, NKJV) It’s offered to us all, but that is not nearly the whole…

Because we need something now. Eternal life is more than good, in the long run at least, but meanwhile, what am I now? If you are in Christ, what are you now? Or what will you be if you believe?

“Behold if any man is in Christ, He is a new creation. Old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new!”

2 Cor. 5:17

It’s not just a religious saying. It is what the Word of God says. You are a three part being, “spirit soul and body,” (1 Thess. 5:23). Your spirit is born anew and “made alive in Christ” by faith in Him. “Unless a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3), because the kingdom is first in the spirit. “The kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:21)

In our spirit, we are like Christ, “because as He is, so are we in this world.” (1 John 4:17). Not just in the world to come, “in this world.” If you are in Christ, you are a SON OF GOD! “His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may become partakers of the divine nature.” (2 Pet. 1:3-4). You are a partaker of His divine nature.

Almost sounds sacrilegious, doesn’t it? But it is simply what the word of God says! In our spirits we are like Christ, if “our spirit bears witness with His Spirit that we are children of God” (Rom. 8:16). He made us to be “conformed to the image of His son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.” (Rom. 8:29).

Do you realize what this means practically? You have all victory in Christ. “Whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” (1 John 5:4). You literally can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. (Phil. 4:13) “Thanks be to God, who always causes us to triumph in Christ.” (2 Cor. 2:14)

You can change the world. You can change your own mind. Was Jesus the light of the world? As long as He was here, he said (John 9:5). And then he told us, “you are the light of the world,” (Matt. 5:14). He lives in you, and you in Him, and in the Father and the Spirit (John 14:20). You are to be “filled with all the fullness of God” (Eph. 3:19). Know the love of Christ. Dig into His word, open yourself to the Spirit of God. You need to know who you are!

You can overcome the world by faith. But there is an even greater challenge you can overcome. By the Spirit of God, you can overcome your old self. That hated flesh and sin that knows your weak spots from the inside. But it is not you anymore. You are new. You are free.

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again in the yoke of bondage.”

Gal. 5:1

And here is the key to seeing it in your life. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Rom. 12:2). You have the choice and the power. You just have to know it. And now you do. Not only can you overcome the world, you can overcome your greatest enemy. The flesh. “Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.” (Gal. 5:16). And you can overcome the devil. “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7) “God always causes us to triumph in Christ.” (Phil. 4:13). Just renew your mind! Renew your mind by learning God’s truth by His Word, and by His Spirit.

Your mind/soul can be changed when you renew it by leading it with our spirit, and by the power of the Spirit of God. You are a king and a priest in Christ! (1 Pet. 2:9). Did you know that?

And you are a warrior. “I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the wicked one.” (1 John 2:14). It is for freedom Christ has set us free. Immerse yourself in the word of God, and you will find His promises true and powerful. There is more than I can say in an article. You have to know it yourself, personally, deeply.

Believe it, and you will receive it.

“All things are possible to him who believes.”

Mark 9:23

God has given power to you. He “made you accepted in the beloved” (Eph. 1:6) and He called, justified, and glorified you (Rom. 8:30). You have “become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Cor. 5:21). In your spirit, you are the very rightness of God Himself. There is nothing wrong with you there! And it is the highest part of your being. You have the power of God given to you, to be totally transformed in your whole being. Just “be transformed by the renewing of your mind” and you will experience the newness of life and power that is in your spirit in your mind and body.

You have an inheritance in Christ. You are literally an heir of God–an heir, of all things! (Rom. 8:17, 32) You can lead the world to Christ, disciple the world (Matt. 28:19).  His will will be done “on earth, as it is in heaven,” (Matt. 6:10), and He has made you a warrior that can overcome all things for that very purpose. It is a beautiful thing.

This kingdom “grows as a mountain, and fills the whole earth.” It shall stand forever, and never be destroyed. (Dan. 2:35, 44). You are the warrior of an eternal kingdom, achieving the victory of Christ over the Dragon every day. “He will be bruised under your feet,” (Rom. 16:20).

Everything that you set your hand to is blessed. You are blessed in the country and in the city, your land, and all your work. (Deut. 28:3, 8). “God will supply all your needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:19). Receive all things by faith. There is so much more than I could even say. You are free. You are utterly new. You are pure. Now be transformed in your soul. Live like your spirit already is. The way of freedom is the way of the Lord. And “where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” (2 Cor. 3:17).

You have access to the mind of Christ. “You have the mind of Christ,” (1 Cor. 2:16) and “you know all things.” (1 John 2:20). What you lack in your soul and body, receive by faith! You are “blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” (Eph. 1:3).

You have access to everything. Jesus said, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it will be done.” (John 15:7). Abide in Him, in His word, and you have power and fulfillment. Shine His light. “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4). “He Himself is our peace.” “Now therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and members of the household of God”! In Christ Jesus “you also are being built into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.” (Eph 2:14,19, 22). You are the body of Christ. Do you see that?

“He chose you in Him before the foundation of the world, that you should be holy and without blame before Him in love.” (Eph. 1:4). Anyone who chooses to believe joins that category. Anyone. Believe = by-live. He is your life. You are not a human doing, but a human being, and more than that, you are a being called a son of God. Whether male or female, if you are in Him. You are made in the image of Christ, express and new. Sins are gone. You are not saved in your sins, you are saved from your sins. You don’t have to sin anymore. No longer bound. “God will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able to overcome.” (1 Cor. 10:13).  He “created you in Christ Jesus for good works.” (Eph. 2:10).

Be “washed in the water of the Word.” (Eph. 5:26). Immerse yourself. You are a child of God. New. Righteous. The light of the world, a Kingdom warrior.

You have peace.

Truth.

Freedom.

“Freely you have received. Freely give.” (Matt. 10:8).

Meet the Writer

Benjamin has been an avid reader ever since someone gave him the Lord of the Rings trilogy at seven years old, and for years now he has been a committed writer. If he’s not writing or studying the Bible, he’s probably out doing parkour or looking at the steps to assemble a Kingdom lifestyle and farm. In his writing he aims to shine the light of God’s truth to those who are searching, and inspire them to rise up.
